Who Are We?

We are the descendants of Prof. Francis Carr (1833-1896) and Mary Ann McParland (18??-1920). Francis and Mary had seven children, four of whom survived to adulthood. Mary Jane and Theresa Ann made the journey from New York to California with their parents. After settling in Millville, two sons were born. Francis Christopher was born on December 1, 1875, and William Peter was born on September 28, 1878. Most of us who attend the Carr reunions are descendants of their eldest son, Judge Francis Carr (1875-1944). He lived in Shasta County his entire life, which is why we feel a kinship there.

On December 22, 1908, Judge Carr married Mary Agnes Kennedy in St. Joseph's Church in Berkeley. Francis and Mary had seven children: Francis, Laurence, James, Paul, Kenneth, Katherine, and Barbara. We have had the good fortune to connect with our cousins on the Kennedy side too! Hmmm... What would that be? Once, twice, three times removed? Doesn't matter to us, a cousin is a cousin. By hook or by crook. By blood or by marriage. By legal formality or by the simple desire to associate in familial bonds with our crazy crew.

Thus was born the current Clan structure we informally acknowledge today: The Francis Carr Clan, The Laurence Carr Clan, The Katherine Carr Davis Clan, The James Carr Clan and the Kennedy Clan. We all know who is responsible for this legacy. Aunt Marie. Marie Kohn Carr-Fitzgerald was married to Laurence William Carr for 50 years. I'm not sure she realized what she was starting in 1975 by inviting us all to her home, The Ranch as we all know it. Here we are, 40+ years later, four generations of Carr cousins reuniting once again in Shasta County.
